The Substation

Programmes and events at The Substation are diverse, ranging from traditional dance to contemporary dance and theatre; from established visual artists holding exhibitions to new, young poets holding readings; from gigs featuring local rock bands to regional conferences on arts and culture; from international film festivals to screenings of works by first-time filmmakers.

While The Substation is open to all kinds of arts and cultural practices, it has a preference for work that challenges and explores. It is also committed to encouraging a diversity of voices in Singapore arts and culture, and in providing support for young, emerging artists and arts groups.

Events as The Substation are of three types :
  • shows presented and organised by The Substation
  • shows co-presented by The Substation in partnership with other artists or arts groups and;
  • shows presented by independent artists or arts groups, who rent our facilities for their activities

Sub-space : The Visual Arts Programme of The Substation

This visual arts programme encourages open-minded inquiry and critical engagement between artists and audiences. Sub_space is a provocation, a platform, a process.

Latitudes in Transit in sync with the Women in Arts Festival 2010

7th January - 21st January at The Substation Gallery

Co-organised by Singapore Council of Women's Organisations (SCWO) and The Substation, in Partnership with the Embassy of Mexico.

"Latitudes in Transit" celebrates the diverse expressions of womanhood. All the artists live their own realities and face and process them through art. The 15 pieces by female artists from Mexico will feature pop art, realism, abstract and other forms of paintings.
