Specialized agencies in United Nation

United Nation (UN) is an international organization, which countries all around the world come together to discuss global pressing issues, ranging from international security, to economic development, to human rights. It has many specialized agencies, like the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Countries in Europe have played a major role in UN. Most of the headquarters of the agencies are set up in Europe. Agencies related to food and agriculture, like the
International Fund for Agricultural Development, World Food Programme, Food and Agriculture Organization, has their headquarters set up in Italy. As such, Italy is in charge of food security, forestry, aiding those in need of food in the developing countries, etc.

Next, many agency’s headquarters are also set up in Switzerland. This includes the World Health Organization, World Intellectual Property Organization and World Meteorological Organization.

The list goes on.

Albeit these European countries may not be the head of the agencies, but they do contribute a lot by providing the necessary resources for the programmes to take place. For example, not only do they provide the land to set up the headquarters, but officers from these countries are also involved in the organizations. They meet up with one another regularly to discuss issues related to their agency.
