In India, people from one state cannot go to another state for their own betterment. For example, the people from Bihar cannot visit West Bengal. North Indians cannot work in Mumbai and their children are forced to study Marathi just because they are residing in Maharashtra. Not because there are legal laws which limit the people’s demographic, but because racial discrimination is there to discourage people from moving from one state to another. When girl students from East India go to North India or South India for higher studies, people do not treat them as Indian. As such, this limitation in the people’s demographic is affecting factor mobility in India and the productivity of India’s economy at large. Indians from one state did not go to another state because they are worried of racial attacks, verbally or physically.
Everybody is questioning India about issues of racial discrimination, after the Australian racist attacks on Indians in Australia. The United States government had given instructions to its people to avoid visiting India. They have refused to visit India not because of terrorist attacks, but because of the increasing number of attacks on foreign tourists. Here, fears of racial attacks can also become a reason to deter foreigners from coming to India. This affects India’s tourism revenue and could, perhaps, pose a barrier for entrepreneurs to start a business in India.
